I just picked up a Probook 4530s and installed ML to it. Of course the Realtek wifi didn't work, so I needed to use a USB wifi adapter until my Atheros wifi+BT combo card gets here. I tried and tried to get my Cisco AE1000 to work with no success.
I remembered I had a Tenda W311U laying around that I had picked up from Microcenter for $10 a while back. I looked on Tenda's website and there was only one driver version supporting up to 10.6, so most likely the driver on the included disk was the same (tried to download but their servers are horribly slow). I just popped in the disk that came with the adapter, chose to install the package for 10.6, plugged in the adapter, ran the utility, and internet/networking works great.
The utility is kind of hard to follow, but just follow the instructions linked below and you will be fine. Just thought I would share for anyone trying to search for it in the future. Click to expand.I did try the Ralink drivers for both the Tenda W311U (RT2870) and the Cisco AE1000 (RT3572), and neither one would work. The adapters would both show up under USB in System Information, but neither were detected as network adapters in Network Preferences.
Their included utility would never launch correctly either, I'm assuming because it didn't detect any adapters to use for AP scanning. I tried everything I could think of, including fiddling with the ID's in the kext with no success. I then removed the Ralink drivers/utility and used Tenda's drivers straight from the included disk, and it worked. If you have some time for experiments, copy RT2870USBWirelessDriver.kext from /S/L/E to any folder and replace Info.plist, located inside it, with, then install the new kext with Kext Wizard, repair the permissions, rebuild the kext cache and reboot. On the next boot plug your AE1000 adapter in and it should be recognized.
Same goes for all RaLink RT2870/RT2770/RT3X7X/RT537X-based USB adapters, if their IDs are not inside Info.plist, you should add them manually.
