Beverley Naidoo is influenced by many things around her when she writes. The power of stories and how she has struggled has made her a better writer. She is a rebel and an activist. When she writes she tries to educate people with her stories, and what she feels is the truth. She was raised by one Jewish and one Protestant parent who were very open minded, which helped her see things from different views. She mostly writes about politics and how things affect kids.

In her book, The Other Side of Truth, she tells about the consequences you could face by speaking what is on your mind and how your words could hurt your family. She points out that you have to think about what you are going to say before you say it, because your words could have a big impact. Naidoo didn't plan to become a writer. Her ideas come from traveling, taking pictures and writing notes. She models her characters after people she has met and gets ideas after speaking with them.

I have read 3 of her books and I always get drawn into the story and I can’t put it down. I look forward to reading more of her books.
